Kaden John

So I have so many pictures that I can't keep to myself so I need to post them. Kaden is the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life. He has his days & nights mixed up, so he sleeps most of the day & will eat less, & as soon as mommy wants to go to bed he wakes up & takes forever to go back to sleep. Every time he sneezes he lets out a big sigh. I've been trying to record it, but its to unpredictable. Kaden hates baths, & when he gets to upset when we change his diaper he pee's everywhere. He is very tiny, he fits in premie clothe, which we don't have many of, newborn clothes eat him up. He loves to be swaddled & loves to be held. My parents came on the 18th of December & will leave after the blessing which is on January 5th. They have been a great help since being home from the hospital. Michele came for the birth & left the day after we came home from the hospital & my parents showed up that day, so we have not lacked help. I can not stop taking pictures of my little boy. I have already filled up my camera. He just does too many cute things.

A Labor of Love

WARNING: This blog post explains my labor story, readers discretion is advised. If you are easily squeamish, read the first and last paragraph for our story, also their are spelling & grammar mistakes because I don't proof read my posts.

First off let me explain my pregnancy. I have had one of the pregnancies women dream of. We found out we were pregnant in April during Spring Break. The first trimester was a breeze. I never threw up or had morning sickness. I was nauseous at times, but never threw up, never woke up during the night, I was just EXHAUSTED all the time. I would come home after school & just sleep. The second trimester I was just tired again, not as much but I would still sleep a lot, everything else was great. The third trimester, again I was very tired. I was working as a CNA so it took a lot out of me. I only gained 13 lbs the entire pregnancy. Never threw up, but toward the end I had a hard time falling asleep. Finding a comfortable position was impossible. Also I had to get up to pee very frequently. I was hungry all the time also so I was pretty tired of being pregnant toward the last month. All my pregnant friends were having their babies & I started getting really jealous. That was the hardest part. I just wanted to see & hold my baby. During his 35 week ultrasound he was in the 39th percentile. He stopped moving also, so I had to go in for frequent non stress tests to make sure he was fine. We tried everything to try to induce labor because we were getting anxious.

THE STORY: We are first time parents so we, like most, were freaked out about everything. We went in thinking I had a liver problem, (nope), we thought I was in early labor twice (nope) We went in at 38 weeks when I had strong contractions for two hours. I walked around trying to walk them off but when we got to the hospital they just stopped. A few days before my mucus plug came out & it is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen come out of me. It just kept coming & coming too. We went in at 38 1/2 weeks thinking my water broke, but it didn't. So after that we felt like giving up. We said unless I'm having contractions that I can't talk through or my water breaks we aren't going back in. My doctor said if on the 23rd of December if my cervix was favorable, he would induce me (My due date was the 24th). So we were gonna wait & stop building mountains out of mole hills.

We went to sleep on Saturday the 14th, I take sleeping medication to help me stay asleep, so it takes a the next world war to wake me in the middle of the night. Because I was having a hard time sleeping because of the baby, my dose was increased past what I normally take. At 3am I wake up, I feel something slowing out of me. I reach over to feel the bed & it is wet. I turn over wake up Tyler telling him I think my water just broke. He goes & turns on the light & I was expecting a river down our sheets, but their is just a wet spot about the circumference of a soda can next to me. I was amazed that was all. Tyler was disappointed & tired, It didn't smell like urine, but their was just so little. We agreed that to lay back down & if I were to pool up we would go to labor & delivery. I laid there but nothing ever came. Eventually I fell back asleep. I had a lot of discharge that day, so I thought it was just the after math. We woke up at around 10 on Sunday morning, laid around, no new water. We got ready for church spent some time together & left for our 1 o'clock church. I was sitting in sacrament disappointed that I was still pregnant. I was listening to a speaker & just couldn't get what happened that morning out of my mind. I went to the bathroom & when I got out I knew I had to bring it back up with Tyler. Something wasn't right.

I came back & talked to Tyler. I told him wasn't it weird that it was went. It wasn't sticky, it wasn't like normal discharge, maybe we should go in. The only way to know your water broke is to go in. We were so tired of going in to be told to go home so we fought ourselves with what we wanted to do. Tyler went on the internet & then told me to get up & that we are going just in case. He read on the internet a story of how the same thing happened to a women online. I thought that was a weak case to decided to go in. But I didn't fight it, we left sacrament & went into labor & delivery. We get checked in & told the nurse in charge our story & asked how many times does that happen & its not the water, she told us pretty often because most of the time it takes just one big kick from baby & it kicks some urine out. We felt like it was a waste to come but we were already there. She did the first test which tests the PH levels, the strip is suppose to turn blue. It did, but the nurse said it could be anything so she had to do another test. That test also came back positive, my water had broke! We were gonna have a baby with in the next day!

I was so confused as to why I only had the one spot & nothing else. Imagine a water bottle full of water. If you poke a hole near the top of it, the water is going flow out until it gets to that hole & then stop, & nothing else comes out. That is what happened with my water. Its not something that happens often. They took me to into my room & got my IV in, it was at the bottom of my wrist, weird, never seen an IV there before. I had a training paramedic put it in, Tyler was so nervous thinking he was gonna mess up, he did great. They started Petocin & it was just a matter of waiting. I had visits from family & tons of texts & phone calls from loved ones. We were super excited. I started to feel some contraction & they were coming fast. They checked me & I was still only 2 cm after about three hours. I gave up & asked for my epidural. The doctor came in & started my epidural, but boy did that hurt. He numbed it at first & that hurt the most. Then he told me to stay still & stick out my back which is hard to do when pregnant. He plugged the needle into my back & I moved a bit, I had everyone "yelling" at me to stay still but it hurt so much. He finally got it done & I got to lay down for a second until the doctor came in & broke the rest of my water.

It is a gross feeling when it breaks, its very warm & it keeps going & going & going. Then you think its done, & more water keeps coming. After that my contractions picked up quickly, I was so happy I couldn't feel a thing. Michele & Ronnie came at 12:30 am on he 16th, & I was 4 cm. It was such a miracle that Michele could be here for the birth, she helped so much but more on that later. Thank you to our angels Glen & Kim for making it possible for Michele to be here. Tyler & I tried to get some sleep, but I kept waking up because they had to take my blood pressure every half hour. I got up an hour or so later complaining that my butt hurt & I could feel the pressure of contractions more than before so they checked me again & I was fully dilated! It took less than an hour & a half to go 6 cm. The baby was still pretty high so they had me level down, basically just keep resting & let the contractions & my body push him down.

An hour later they decided that I can start pushing. They taught me when a contraction comes, to put my head down, push & hold my breath & get three pushes with each contraction. I did one full contraction & then they took my temp & I had a fever. So that causes a huge deal. We stopped & I had to be put on antibiotics & had to stop pushing until I was done with them. That took another hour & a half. I was getting impatient & just wanted to see my baby. I also started to get really sick & was throwing up every half hour. That took a lot out of me, along with not being able to eat once I was in labor. Once I was done with the antibiotics they let me start pushing again. We got the bed ready, the doctor came in, I put my legs on the stirrups, Michele help one leg, the nurse the other. Poor Tyler got weak & had to sit down. I pushed one round & the doctor told me the head was crowning. It was so real I just wanted it to go faster. Tyler look & said he saw our baby & he had hair. He said I was doing a great job & he was almost here. That was my motivation to give it everything I've got. I did another round & I could feel him stuck there, he was just there. Round three came & I felt him slid out. I just had a baby.

The best sound in the would is to hear your baby cry for the first time. It was beautiful, my baby was born, I had a son! I had an episotomy done (they make two little incisions in the vagina to make it easier for the head to pass through) so the doctor stitched me up. Michele & Tyler went to see baby, it took forever to see my baby but finally he was handed to me & he was the most precious thing I've ever seen. I got to see the placenta & Tyler cut the cord when he was born. I was still sick after I delivered, I was throwing up so I was very weak. Also I was losing a lot of blood because I just gave birth so I was basically dead from exhaustion. I fed him which wasn't too bad & got to spend time with him. He was 6 lbs 12 oz & 19 inches.

So now its been a day & a half since my little guy was born & I have loved every minute of it. I was able to get a lot of sleep last night so I feel fresh. We had many visitors last night along with phone calls, messages & texts. Breast feeding is getting easier each time, he is a good baby, doesn't every cry. He unfortunatly has to be on antibiotics as well because I ran a fever, but he is okay other wise. We also have to stay 48 hours so we will be released tomorrow morning. I love the staff here, they are so caring, I feel like I'm at a hotel! The food is alright & free snacks (& soda) all day long. I am up on my feet, have taken two showers & feel great. I love walking around the hospital with Tyler & baby. We were released from the hospital Wednesday morning with a clean bill of health. We love having our little boy with us, I never knew I could love someone so much. We are so happy & blessed to have our little blessing in our lives. Even though it was earlier than we wanted, we love every minute.
